If you’re looking for a great day out with the kids, you can’t go past the bay.
Wynnum offers plenty of easy options such as the Wynnum Wading Pool and Waterpark. Head to the wading pool early in the morning before it gets too hot and tow the kids up and down on boogie boards.
The playground in Wynnum West is a hit with kids, as are the bird hide walks and mangrove walks at Wynnum North. To excite the kids in the warmer weather, head behind the Shire Clerk’s Cottage and go fishing for eels. All you need are simple sticks and meat on string.
Looking for more adventure? Head to North Stradbroke Island and take to the dunes for a spot of sandboarding. There is 22km of open beach to enjoy, with surf breaks on the eastern side or a quiet water option on the west.
Redlands Kayak Tours offers families, including children from the age of about eight, the chance to enjoy a guided kayak tour throughout beautiful Moreton Bay. Tours cater for the well-paddled to non-experienced and include safety briefing, safety equipment, emailed photos and light refreshments.
For a more relaxing day out, the Wellington Point jetty has been providing anglers with trophy fish and good times for more than 50 years. This jetty plays host to such species as bream, flathead, whiting, tailor and the odd squid. Wellington Point jetty is a stone’s throw away from the local bait shop and is home to a double-lane boat ramp.
If you prefer to explore the area while relaxing and taking in some history, the Brisbane Bayside Steam Railway Society operates the steam railway in Wynnum. It runs on the first and third Sunday of each month from 10am to 4pm.
